About Bo Allen & ScareKrow

By the time Bo Allen, a singer/songwriter from Lexington, Kentucky decided to put a band together, he had already paid his dues. He had won awards from CMT, UNISONG and N.A.S.I songwriting contests, worked as a staff writer for MajorBob, and written songs for Billy Gilman, Thomas Martinez, Jo Hick and Rhonda Towns, the last of which featured Bo’s song on CMT. Bo’s own CD, under the name Scarekrow, finished production in October of 2005.

Bo subsequently formed a band and hit the road, but did not retain a solid lineup until June of 2006, consisting of Lexington musicians and road veterans Rick Marks and Kevin Rawlings, as well as Plymouth IN native Erik Thieling. Since then, these seasoned players have created a tight, high-energy show that threatens to be the most engaging act in country music. Tight-as-nails arrangements, sweet country harmonies and pounding rock rhythms packaged in a party atmosphere help create a bittersweet backdrop for the band’s ultimate theme: the threat that social and environmental change are posing to the American farmer. The band as a whole is known as Scarekrow, having established themselves in several major markets, including southern Florida, Kentucky and the northern Midwest. The group maintains a grueling schedule, touring year round. The hard work has generated considerable buzz, attracting the attention of sponsors, most recently Pendleton Whiskey from Portland Oregon.

In the near future, expect a new CD, expanded merchandise and entrance to new markets. Also, production is being finished on a DVD that was recently filmed in Key West, Florida. In the meantime, the group will continue to impress audiences at festivals and venues, opening for artists such as Brian McComas, Emerson Drive and Gary Allan. Scarekrow has already attracted the attention of several labels, but the group is hesitant to pledge loyalty just yet. It is just a matter of time, however, before their message gets taken to a higher level.

Expect to see more from Scarekrow.

About ScareKrow

An authentic singer/songwriter steps into the light. With so many fresh up & coming artists, often conceived and tailored to fit into a tightly structured marketing plan rather than evolve into creative excellence, it is sometimes difficult to determine one from another and rarely do their self-penned songs move you at a gut level.

All the more reason the Nashville songwriting community has opened it’s arms to embrace the talents of Majorbob Publishing staff writer Bo Allen.

With 23 years experience developing his vocal interpretive skills and mastering several guitar styles, goal #1 during the formative years as Bo puts it with a modest grin, was to play like Eddy Van Halen and sing like Steve Perry.

As his musical and vocal abilities began taking shape through years of hard work and practice followed by many long nights playing in local night spots he became inspired to write songs about life where he grew up in Harlan County Kentucky and his take on the world around him.

Even with musical influences from the hair band era of 80’s rock, his country roots fused with prideful southern heritage inevitably emerged in his songwriting which brought him to his current station in the music business as a published staff writer with songs cut by recording artist Billy Gilman on the Image Music Group label and Rhonda Towns produced by Harold Shed, Norro Wilson and Jim Cotton.

Considering that he is currently co-writing songs with Kent Blazy (Ain’t Goin’ Down till The Sun Comes Up & If Tomorrow Never Comes recorded by Garth Brooks) as well as Gary Burr (”Meet In The Middle” recorded by Diamond Rio, LeAnn Rhymes “Nothin’ ‘Bout Love Makes Sense” & Others) it comes as no surprise that American Idol winner Carrie Underwood, Julie Roberts and other RCA & Sony recording artists have placed songs from Bo Allen on hold for their forthcoming albums.
