About Craig Wilson

Entertainer Craig Wilson talks with freelance writer Sham Williams and shares a little about his life and gig gage as a full-time entertainer…..

Craig Wilson is a well-seasoned entertainer with a playlist that is best described as wonderfully eclectic. "I take requests" he says "and I consider my audience my music directors". It seems like Craig knows just about every pop song ever recorded. He plays a wide range of standards from Sinatra to Bennette, Gershwin to Dean Martin. Ask him for Rock and Roll hits like "Blue Suede Shoes" and "Old Time Rock and Roll", or some Van Morrison and he'll probably know it! If you love country music you're sure to hear some delightful song selections like "He Stopped Loving Her Today" and "All My Ex's Live In Texas". "I work hard to keep up with the new music coming out too." he noted, "Songs from modern acts like Train and Bruno Mars and even a few songs from Adele.". He knows a lot of songs!

Craig plays piano and keyboards and is a very versatile vocalist. Customers have said that they thought they were hearing the original recording when they walked into the room and then realized that it was live! "I don't know if all that's true" Craig said, "but I do try to perform a song as closely as possible to the original and I love trying to sound like Sonny Bono or Billy Joel or Waylon Jennings or Kanye.”

"I'm feel quite fortunate to get to perform with some wonderfully talented musicians." he said. "Especially when I get to work with such gifted piano/vocalists as Cybele, Jenni Huss, Amy Sailor or guitarist/vocalist Tammy Powell.”

Craig works as a solo act or a duo act and occasionally with a full band, whatever the event requires. "I've done a very wide variety of events and venues." "When I get asked to do a special event like a wedding reception or a themed VIP party, I make sure to ask a lot of questions in order to give the client exactly what they want. I offer my experience and expertise to help insure that their special event is fabulous.”

In addition to his performance, he also offers a full DJ service to the client at no additional charge. "I try very hard to provide my dear clients with a "turnkey solution" to their entertainment needs -- they tell me what they want, I make it so.” "When I do a wedding, for example, I can provide the ceremony music, the reception music and provide DJ music as well." "Sometimes a particular event has very specific requirements and you'll be glad to know that Craig understands the technical issues and he has the gear and expertise to cover just about any size venue with a top of the line sound system and a full-service entertainment solution.

Craig has performed all around the world, from Casinos in Tahoe to a year-long tour of the Middle East and Europe, The Waldorf Astoria to Cincinnati's Bankers club and Pinehurst NC and points in between! Over the last few years Craig has done a lot of so called "house gigs" in the Cincinnati area. "I still do a lot of one-nighters and special events but it's nice to have a place to call home."

"I've been a regular at John Phillips (Northern KY) for about three and a half years and before that I performed Tuesday through Thursday for about five years for Jeff Ruby's Waterfront (Covington, KY)." he said. "The view from my piano was an amazing panorama of the Ohio River and the Cincinnati skyline!" "For several years, I also performed at Jag's (Westchester, OH) which is of course another fine dining experience!"

"The Music Business has been pretty good to me." he said. "Ok, I haven't ever had a hit record (yet) but I can't complain." "I hope to release a CD in the next few months and I'm thinking my song "My Dog" might just be the "next big thing"." Wouldn't that be nice?

When asked if he had a list of songs that he regularly performs and he handed us a well-worn Billboard Book of Top 40 Hits and said "I do a lot of songs out of this book."!

We did manage to get a random sampling of a recent playlist that is listed below in Songs.
